Colorado's Civil Rights Commission ruled on Friday that Jack Phillips, a Christian baker, violated the state's anti-discrimination law when he refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, Dave Mullins and Charlie Craig, in 2012.

The commission also ordered Phillips to make wedding cakes for gay couples, despite his religious objections, reports the Associated Press.

In response to the ruling on Friday, Phillips told reporters, "I will stand by my convictions until somebody shuts me down."

Phillips says his supporters are placing so many orders for cookies and brownies that he is not going to bake anymore wedding cakes for anyone.

“We would close down the bakery before we would complicate our beliefs,” Phillips told CBS Denver.

Phillips explained that his religious beliefs would not stop him from baking cupcakes for a gay birthday party, but added, “I don’t want to participate in a same-sex wedding.”

Gay marriage is not legal in Colorado, but Mullins and Craig, who were married in Massachusetts, wanted a wedding cake for their reception in Colorado.

Phillips' attorney may appeal the ruling to the Colorado Court of Appeals.
